His solo EP Heads released on March 7th and featuring WA star producer Ta-Ku, Homeboy Sandman, 20syl and Atom from C2C, Like from PAC DIV and more, has seen Coin Banks featured on Rage, triple j and RTR FM, and has seen the second single Think Of You added to full rotation on triple j. The EP has received critical acclaim and has shown his strengths as a solo artist.

Creating music that is both original and carries a socially conscious message, Coin draws on inspiration from the Native Tongue Movement and its modern day equivalent, Top Dawg Entertainment – home to Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q.

Coin also draws on inspiration from every day life. He says,“I am a huge music fan. I am a fan before I am an artist. I want to make people feel the same way that a De La Soul song made me feel. Life’s experiences are a big influence on me – love, girls and philosophy. For me Hip-Hop is essentially soul music, so it’s the pains and joys in my life that inspire me to create”.

Cutting his teeth in Perth hip-hop group The Stoops, Coin left in early 2012 to pursue new projects including the Coin & Ta-Ku collaborative album, Letters To The Sun with producer Akouo, and membership of rising live hip-hop collective UPNUP, whose lone track Whatever Man earned a triple j Unearthed profile and a Macklemore & Ryan Lewis support.

Coin has spent the past 2 years crafting away on some of his best music to date, and plans to end 2014 with the release of the Heads EP companion piece, the Tails EP.
