Sydney emcee B Wise is back with an infectious new single, ‘Prince Akeem’. Produced by Raph Lauren of Jackie Onassis, it’s an upbeat colourful track named after Eddie Murphy’s character in Coming To America (B Wise’s favourite film growing up), which sees B visualising a life of royalty.
The son of a country girl from Stockinbingal and a man from Nigeria, due to the colour of his skin Wise suffered bullying throughout his childhood. It was a little white lie from his parents, explaining that other kids were jealous of Wise’s Nigerian royalty heritage that gave B Wise a sense of African pride and courage, a feeling he still carries and that led to the story behind ‘Prince Akeem’
‘Prince Akeem’ is off B Wise’s upcoming debut album due for release later this year. The first single, ‘Like You’, was received well by fans and critics alike. B Wise is currently crafting the full length with production coming from Nic Martin (360, Seth Sentry, Pez), Raph Lauren (Jackie Onassis, One Day), Momo (Diafrix), Pro/Gram (Bliss n Eso, Hau) and Colourd Noyz, just to name a few.
An energetic live performer, B Wise has previously supported the likes of G-Eazy, Jackie Onassis, Kid Cudi, GZA (Wu-Tang). ‘B Wise & Friends’ is his first headline show on Saturday 20 June at Sydney’s Spectrum and it promises to be a huge night as he performs new material and invites some special guests along for the ride.
