DRMNGNOW is a Yorta Yorta Independent Artist who has built a loyal following in the underground of Naarm (Melbourne) since first stepping on stages in 2015. DRMNGNOW brings a striking interdisciplinary approach as an MC, Instrumentalist, Poet, Keeper of Song ,and cultural performer.
Known for his dynamic experimental beats driven genre pushing sounds fusing indigenous singing, hip hop/decolonising poetry, soul and ambient electronic textures often shifting from the soulful and sensitive to hard-hitting, such as recent releases ‘Australia does Not Exist’ and ‘Indigenous Land’.
DRMNGNOW has shared stages with many, including Sampa the Great, Masta Ace, Remi and experimental project TAZ with Joelistics. DRMNZGNOW has released two evocative singles this year that challenge nations of statehood and the paradigms related to indigenous rights and particularly sovereignty. DRMNGNOW is currently working on his debut album which promises to deliver something powerful and special based on evidence of his body of work both recorded and as performer in recent years.
Hi latest track Indigenous Land explores ideas around Indigenous Sovereignty and the ongoing impacts of colonial settler occupation of the current nation of Australia. The track was released in reconciliation week with the intent to raise awareness around the need to have thorough conversations about indigenous position in this country in order to find peace for all. Indigenous Land is now playing on the all aussie hip hop Spotify Playlist.
